Alpbachtal Seenland

Situated in the Tirolean Unterland, the Alpbachtal Seenland region is known for its stunning scenery, craggy peaks and thundering rivers and as well as its reputation for having the warmest swimming lakes in Tirol. During the UCI World Road Championships in September 2018, the charming town of Rattenberg will host the start of the Men’s Elite Individual Time Trial (ITT). Interestingly, Rattenberg is officially the smallest town in Austria, meaning that this race will take the world’s best individual time trial riders from Austria’s smallest town to Tirol’s only city, the regional capital Innsbruck.

The 2018 UCI Road World Championships will be a great opportunity for the Alpbachtal Seenland region to further develop and strengthen its infrastructure and attractions for cyclists and mountain bikers. With the flat Inn Valley and steep climbs into the Rofan Mountains and the Kitzbühel Alps, the region already has the perfect ingredients for road cycling. Between the craggy Rofan Massif and the rolling green Kitzbühel Alps, amateurs and pros will appreciate the wide range of rides with fabulous panoramic views.

The Alpbachtal Seenland region is a popular destination not only in summer but also in winter. The Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau is one of the ten largest ski resorts in Tirol, while the surrounding area also offers many other winter activities for all ages such as tobogganing, snowshoe hiking and cross-country skiing. As well as its idyllic landscape, the Alpbachtal Seenland region is also famous well beyond Austria and Tirol for hosting the annual European Forum Alpbach – an interdisciplinary platform bringing together leading representatives from the fields of science, politics, economy and culture. The Albachtal Valley is easy to reach by car as well as by public transport (bus and train).
